2023 Castúo 'Arrebujao' Tinto — Extremadura, Spain
Named after the locally-spoken Spanish-Portuguese dialect, the team at Castúo grows lesser-known indigenous varieties to make alluring wines that sing of the Extremaduran sun. Don't be fooled by how dark this is in the glass — the colour belies a playful, medium-bodied wine abundant with juicy summer fruit. Based on Garnacha Tintorera and the black-cherry charmer Trincadeira, it's got just the right amount of freshness and structure to harmonize with both of August's pasta features. A gem of low-fi winemaking, you might find a little sediment as the wine is unfiltered — just pour gently towards the end of the bottle.
