2021 Monemvasia Assyrtiko - Lakonia, Greece
Like so many of Greece's indigenous white grapes, Assyrtiko possesses the uncanny talent of preserving freshness and vibrancy through the long Mediterranean summer. This example comes from the breathtaking peninsula of Monemvasia (google it!), and it's an exhilarating exercise in vinous tension and salinity. More stoney than fruity, it crosses the Ionian sea to enhance Sicily's trademark pesto alla Trapanese with a detonation of mouthwatering minerality.
